 The afternoon was quiet and still at the heart of Sacred’s herdlands. The chestnut Medicine Hat stallion with his faded streaks of war paint stood under the shade of a large oak, keeping a keen blue eye trained on his grazing daughters. Somewhere, his only son was roaming the territory. And somewhere, he hoped, his lead mare had started the journey back from the birthing glen with a new addition to the herd. Fretfully, the stallion pawed at the ground and shook his mane. He had been waiting two full days for Leija to return. While he knew it was normal for a foaling mare to be gone for a few days, he still worried and pined after her.
